To get this to work for me, I had to update the device driver: Open Device Manager. Open Keyboards. Right click "SteelSeries PS/2 Keyboard". "Update Driver Software". "Search automatically for updated driver software". After that process finished, restart Windows. Hopefully this will help someone out in the future. Share.

Have an MSI GT72 2QD gaming laptop - Windows 10 - 3 years old. Never have had an issue with random shut downs until recently - only shuts down when gaming -usually within an hour. I have a MSI GE71 2QD Apache Pro, it comes with Win10 image. The keyboard works fine, but I can't enable the backlights. If I open SteelSeriesEngine, I can the the keyboard and how to customize light colors. Here my configuration from MSI Help desk software.

The latest working driver was 425.31, every version after (All versions after the "added support for 1903) shows this behaviour. The GPU simply doesn't boost. It's stuck at its max base clock, regardless of usage and temperature. Voltage stuck under the typical 1.0V at boost; it's at around 0.875-0.9ish. The GPU does downclock normally.

I recall when my keyboard was not responding correctly I had to use Device Manager, Keyboards and uninstall the SteelSeries PS/2 Keyboard, then restart my laptop and the issue would go away for a period of time.
